Totem failed to start in my fresh install desktop where I still have no sound
(alsa misconfigured), I think totem should let me play videos although I have no
sound.

Dont know if this is a bug, but as most media players let you play movies
although you havent any sound I think totem should also switch to a "no-sound
mode"...

Set the audio output to 'fakesink' using gstreamer-properties as a workaround.
