Description rduz 2005-05-26 19:42:58 UTC
Distribution: Debian 3.1
Package: Evolution
Priority: Normal
Version: GNOME2.10.0 2.2.1.1
Gnome-Distributor: Ubuntu
Synopsis: Evolution must be restarted periodically to get access to LDAP addressbook data
Bugzilla-Product: Evolution
Bugzilla-Component: Contacts [was: Addressbook]
Bugzilla-Version: 2.2.1.1
Description:
Description of Problem:

Linux pippen 2.6.10-5-386 #1 Fri May 20 13:52:48 UTC 2005 i686
GNU/Linux
evo 2.2.1.1
This is an ubuntu hoary box (5.04)

Once or twice per day I have to evolution --force-shutdown so that I can
look up contacts in the LDAP addressbook. The LDAP server is up and
accessible, but when trying to use auto completion on the To: line, or
trying to use the 'To:' button in the message composer, or trying to use
the 'Contacts' screen directly, no contacts are returned. Nor are any
error messages.

If I --force-shutdown, and then restart evo, the contacts will be
accessible for a random number of hours, and then no LDAP results will
be returned for any addressbook query.

Steps to reproduce the problem:
1. Start evolution
2. Click on 'Contacts' button
3. Select the configured LDAP address book
4. Press the 'clear' button, all entries in the addressbook will be
returned.
5. Wait an indeterminate amount of time
6. Press the 'clear' button, no entries in the addressbook will be
returned.

Actual Results:
No contacts are listed in the contacts window. When addressing a
message, autocomplete doesn't get any hits. Using the 'To:' button in
the composer window to search for a contact doesn't return any
contacts.

Expected Results:
Contacts should always be accessible via LDAP if the LDAP server is up
and running.

How often does this happen?
Once or twice daily.

Can you provide me the stacktrace when the ldap addressbook stops displaying results.
Atleast provide the Evolution and evolution-data-server console messages.
