Description bgruber 2005-05-23 06:28:34 UTC
When renaming a file in icon view, the name can go below the bottom edge of the
window, but the window doesn't scroll to follow your cursor. You end up typing
offscreen.

Here's one way to see the problem:

1) open a folder in nautilus
2) arrange it so that a file is at the bottom the window, by resizing the window
and scrolling to the bottom.
3) try to give that file a nice long name that takes up more than one line.
you'll soon find that your cursor has disappeared and you can't see what you are
typing.

I'm reopening this. It is not really a duplicate of 121111, which has been fixed. The problem remains exactly as I described it.
Comment 3 Cosimo Cecchi 2008-01-29 01:16:34 UTC
Confirming with 2.21.6.

I modified revealing logic so that it works properly when the icon is being renamed.
Comment 5 Cosimo Cecchi 2008-04-18 17:40:41 UTC
As discussed on IRC, marking as "needs-work" because this does not cover the case in which you have to scroll horizontally, neither the case in which the icon is in the last row/column.
Comment 6 Nelson Benitez 2008-10-13 07:34:09 UTC
Windows file manager does this very well.. just displaying the last line being entered i.e. like if you used right align on the text box , so maybe this needs to be fixed/enhanced in the gtk entry text...

Comment 8 Alexandre Franke 2015-11-23 19:07:10 UTC
With the new rename design, this is OBSOLETE since we don't edit names in place anymore.
Comment 9 bgruber 2015-11-23 19:12:27 UTC
Alexandre, could you kindly specify as of what version you consider this resolved? It remains an issue in my installed version of nautilus which is 3.14.2.
Comment 10 Alexandre Franke 2015-11-23 20:24:59 UTC
The new design has been introduced in 3.18.
