GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 304967
add "audio/video length" to icon captions & list columns
Last modified: 2010-11-26 20:10:34 UTC
now that nautilus-media is obsolete, there is no way to browse files and see right away for instance WAV file lengths or video lengths which is a bit frustrating for me. since nautilus already can find out the length of such files (right-click->properties->audio/video), i don't see a big technical/dependency problem preventing nautilus to have in the "icon captions" or "list columns" options (edit->preferences->display/list columns) another caption "audio/video length". the column/icon caption would be left empty if the file is not an audio/video file.
Created attachment 46700 [details] a screenshot of the possible feature this is how it could look like (i didn't include the case of non-audio files and video files)
actually this could be a "smart caption". it could display image resolutions, video/audio length, PDF/doc/OO number of pages, number of items in a folder, maybe number of files in tar.gz/zip etc. that could be a very nice feature.
Also cf. [1], Ross Burton obviously put together something like this for gaining EXIF data from JPEG files and presenting them in Nautilus. Ross: I'd appreciate if you could attach the source code of this column provider to this bug report. We should really have an extra column/file info field labeled "Media Info" or something.
