Description Mikel Ward 2005-05-02 02:08:46 UTC
If a message is tagged as Junk, it is apparently deleted from the Inbox and
shown in the Junk folder. The only way Junk is automatically cleaned out is
when I exit Evolution if the "Expunge on Exit" preference is enabled.

As my GNOME Desktop is nice and stable and Evolution provides many features such
as calendar reminders that make it most usable if I leave it constantly running,
I seldom quit Evolution. In this case, my Junk is never purged without manual
intervention!

It should be possible to either set a preference to automatically delete/expunge
Junk and/or Trash of a certain age, or to automatically expunge their source
folders (especially the Inbox) at regular intervals, rather than only at exit.

junk isn't expunged on exit, only deleted messages are.
Comment 2 Mikel Ward 2005-05-19 08:31:46 UTC
That's the problem.

I don't want to retain Junk mail indefinitely. It should be automatically
cleaned out on a regular basis. In fact, the Junk button /should/ be an
alternative to the Delete button. That is the suggestion made in "A Plan For
Spam" <http://paulgraham.com/spam.html>, and is the logical action. What else I
am likely to want to do after I have manually marked a message as Junk? Why
should I have to mark it as Junk and then also manually Delete it?

That's the essence of this enhancement request!

Sorry, I now understand the point you were making. I had hoped that Evolution
deleted messages marked as Junk on exit, but you're right that it doesn't. This
fact makes this bug even more necessary.
