Description David Imai 2005-04-12 21:17:42 UTC
This error occcurs on a computer with Windows ME and Microsoft Word 2000. When I
try to open a file in a directory that contains Microsoft Word documents, the
Open Image window fails to render the icons of the Word documents. The following
error message appears:
Pango-ERROR **: file shape.c: line 75 (pango_shape): assertion failed:
(glyphs->num_glyphs > 0) aborting...
When the OK button is clicked, another message appears:
Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library
Runtime Error!
Program C:\PROGRAM FILES\GIMP-2.0\BIN\GIMP-2.2.EXE
abnormal program termination
When the OK button is clicked, GIMP shuts down.

I think this is actually a dup of bug #149643; see also bug #151068. The fix is
to upgrade to a more recent version of Pango (the font-rendering library that
GIMP uses), if it is possible for you to do that.
