works fine for me with special chars... what chars are you using that
it's not working with? is this imap? pop? what?
Comment 2 Martin Jürgens 2005-03-12 19:11:53 UTC
It happens with POP3. I don't know if it happens with IMAP. But I'll
test again when I'm back at my computer.

I used something like that:

it is probably that the tools are using different charsets. evolution
will send utf-8 for all passwords.

it is likely the other tool is using an 8 bit charset, like iso-8859-1.

not sure what we could do here, it would be impractical to try the
locale charset on an incorrect query. it would also be ugly to add an
option to tell pop whether to use the locale charset or to specify the
charset too (it would have to be per-account).

workaround: stick to ascii and control characters?
Comment 4 Jeffrey Stedfast 2005-03-14 17:12:52 UTC
ah, that must have been it... the pop server I setup was on a machine
who's locale was also UTF-8. doh. I should have figured this was the case.
Comment 5 André Klapper 2005-03-15 01:13:58 UTC
thought it could have been related to bug 239816, but not zed closed
that already... :-)
Comment 6 Martin Jürgens 2005-04-08 22:41:06 UTC
If I should test something in my Evolution so I can help fixing the
bug, I just need a step by step howTO, what to do so that I can help.

Thanks,
Martin
Comment 7 Martin Jürgens 2005-04-08 22:45:06 UTC
Hi again,
I just reproducted the bug again.

But now with Evolution 2.2.1.1.

Greetings,
Martin
Comment 8 Not Zed 2005-08-08 06:15:02 UTC
try making sure you're running in the same locale as the server.
Comment 9 André Klapper 2006-01-08 23:25:42 UTC
martin, any news?
Comment 10 Martin 2006-01-09 13:16:42 UTC
No, no new news. I still have the same problem. The locale of Evolution is set to UTF8, the locale of the client system is set to de_DE.UTF-8 (Ubuntu Breezy), the locale of the server system is set to de_DE.UTF-8, too.

I can reproduce the bug with Ubuntu Breezy Badger and SuSE 10.0
Comment 11 André Klapper 2006-01-09 13:24:07 UTC
ok, reopening. thanks for answering.
shortening the summary a bit so it remains readable in search results.
Comment 12 Martin 2006-01-09 13:44:49 UTC
ok, just a short addition: In Mozilla Thunderbird it works so I do not really think that it is a server related problem.

Anyway I will try it with web.de (freemail provider) and I will give you some server specs:

Debian Sarge, Courier.

Courier configuration:

Similar to http://cvs.syscp.de/webcvs/index.php?repos=syscp&dir=templates%2Fmisc%2Fconfigfiles%2Fdebian_sarge%2Fcourier
Comment 13 Martin 2006-01-09 13:51:28 UTC
umlauts in the password of my old web.de account do not work either.
Comment 14 Martin Jürgens 2008-09-03 18:38:05 UTC
still there with Evolution 2.22.3.1
Comment 15 André Klapper 2010-03-13 23:59:25 UTC
Can you please provide a CAMEL_DEBUG log as per http://projects.gnome.org/evolution/bugs.shtml ?
