GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 273626
unable to login using password with special characters
Last modified: 2010-06-17 21:25:41 UTC
Please fill in this template when reporting a bug, unless you know what you are doing. Description of Problem: Steps to reproduce the problem: 1. Create a e-mail account with special character in the password, for example צהפט. 2. Enter the data in Evolution. 3. Evolution can't login, it asks for a password. 4. Edit the password of you e-mail account in something like abcdefg. 5. Edit the password in evolution. 6. You are able to login. Actual Results: Expected Results: How often does this happen? When you use a password with special character. Additional Information:
works fine for me with special chars... what chars are you using that it's not working with? is this imap? pop? what?
It happens with POP3. I don't know if it happens with IMAP. But I'll test again when I'm back at my computer. I used something like that: test?tüsttes
it is probably that the tools are using different charsets. evolution will send utf-8 for all passwords. it is likely the other tool is using an 8 bit charset, like iso-8859-1. not sure what we could do here, it would be impractical to try the locale charset on an incorrect query. it would also be ugly to add an option to tell pop whether to use the locale charset or to specify the charset too (it would have to be per-account). workaround: stick to ascii and control characters?
ah, that must have been it... the pop server I setup was on a machine who's locale was also UTF-8. doh. I should have figured this was the case.
thought it could have been related to bug 239816, but not zed closed that already... :-)
If I should test something in my Evolution so I can help fixing the bug, I just need a step by step howTO, what to do so that I can help. Thanks, Martin
Hi again, I just reproducted the bug again. But now with Evolution 2.2.1.1. Greetings, Martin
try making sure you're running in the same locale as the server.
martin, any news?
No, no new news. I still have the same problem. The locale of Evolution is set to UTF8, the locale of the client system is set to de_DE.UTF-8 (Ubuntu Breezy), the locale of the server system is set to de_DE.UTF-8, too. I can reproduce the bug with Ubuntu Breezy Badger and SuSE 10.0
ok, reopening. thanks for answering. shortening the summary a bit so it remains readable in search results.
ok, just a short addition: In Mozilla Thunderbird it works so I do not really think that it is a server related problem. Anyway I will try it with web.de (freemail provider) and I will give you some server specs: Debian Sarge, Courier. Courier configuration: Similar to http://cvs.syscp.de/webcvs/index.php?repos=syscp&dir=templates%2Fmisc%2Fconfigfiles%2Fdebian_sarge%2Fcourier
umlauts in the password of my old web.de account do not work either.
still there with Evolution 2.22.3.1
Can you please provide a CAMEL_DEBUG log as per http://projects.gnome.org/evolution/bugs.shtml ?
