Description of Problem:
If view set to 'list' the left panel is two rows two columns making
impossible to enlarge the list view to the left 

Steps to reproduce the problem:
1. set view to list
2. click its left border
3. move the mouse to the left
4. see where it does stop enlarging

Actual Results:
list view cannot be extendes to the left

Expected Results:
left panel buttons should get to one column 4 rows

How often does this happen?

this is a dup of bug 311042 which is a bit more up-to-date.
