GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 271400
Autocompletion creating whitespace in pulldown
Last modified: 2013-09-10 14:03:39 UTC
After you type in the first 3 letters of a name in the "To:", "CC:" and "BCC:" fields it should display the names that match. As you continue typing the list should decrease in size. In 2.1 when you type the first 3 letters, the widget displays about 20 names that do not match for a split second, and then the widget clears and the names that match display--leaving the widget still open and too big. It also displays the names that match, but does not include the email address itself. Sometimes you have multiple addresses to the same person, the way it is now you cannot tell which one you are using. Attaching shot of both widget too big, and missing information in the email address.
Created attachment 44584 [details] Autocompletion failure. Widget too big, and missing email addresses.
not showing the email address is bug 270843. cannot see the behaviour you describe in evolution-2.1.3.2.0. 200501160930-0.snap.ximian.10.1, however, other bad things: when i enter for example "st" in the composer (i have set my autocompletion to 2 chars), names in the dropdown menu get displayed that do neither have an "s" nor a "t" in their names! :-)
cannot see the behavior in 2.1.3.2 either, but I have a related problem. If you get the widget and you choose one name/address with <return> the widget closes and underlines the name, bringing the cursor right after the name (right how it should and how it was in 2.0.3). But then the widget opens again, showing just that single name. So you can't access any menus using keys. You have to leave that field with <tab> or something to get acces to the menus again.
OK, email addresses are now displaying in 2.1.4 so that part is working. Still presenting white space.
Per IRC, tested again on 2.1.5. Other related open bug is still happening, aggresive changing of what you are typing. But regarding the whitespace, it's still doing it. I type in "mike" and it flashes a big list of names (many that do not match) for a split second and then when I type "@" there are no longer any names that match and the dropdown widget should reduce to nothing. But it still remains open and displays white space in the area that flashed all of the previous names. Got a good screenshot, attaching. If you type in "mike" and then pause for a second before typing the "@" it then flashes the big list of names that do not match, and then the list reduces correctly and displays just the "Mikes". Them typing the "@" puts whitespace only in the smaller widget. Very weird.
Created attachment 44865 [details] After typing in some letters, list should shorten, but widget stays original size but simply fills with white space.
Autocompletion source is 2 local addressbooks and 1 LDAP book.
hmmm. david, do you still see this in 2.2?
There still is a lot of white space still in 2.2. When you start typing names and it attempts to autocomplete it's creating a widget with many empty rows at the bottom. Attaching shot taken from 2.2

ok, so as per last comment retargetting to 2.2.x (or 2.3)? hmmm. don't know. at least not 2.1 because it's gone. :-)
Changing title of summary. Issue remains in 2.2.3.
Reassigning bugs that no longer belong to me.
dave, can you still see this in 2.4? /me not...
Indeed, it's working on 2.4 and not creating the white space white space while you are typing, closing.
