Description garnet ulrich 2005-01-18 15:11:36 UTC
Description of Problem:
Other users continue to use the cursed MS Outlook which spews out
winmail.dat attachments. Open source code exists to handle winmail.dat
(ytnef). Why not integrate it into Evolution? This is a major thorn in
the side of evolution users with coworkers who continue to use Outlook.

Steps to reproduce the problem:

adding interop keyword
Comment 3 David Richards 2005-04-07 17:44:25 UTC
Request please that issues 16290 and 52961 be closed and moved into
this one issue.

I found this project:

http://ytnef.sourceforge.net/

The developer states:

....Now there are programs on the internet that can "unroll" these
winmail.dat files, but I haven't been able to find any that can
retrieve the calendar information, or that I could really drop into a
procmail script. Ideally, I'ld like to see this code rolled into
Evolution or into a more procmail-friendly script, that would rebuild
email with the proper attachments and meeting requests encoded as ICal....

Comment 4 Not Zed 2005-05-19 10:11:03 UTC
i've written a hacky plugin for it, see http://users.on.net/notzed/src
Comment 5 André Klapper 2006-06-17 23:55:42 UTC
still valid in 2.7, updating version number.
Comment 6 Michael R Head 2006-08-18 21:06:36 UTC
There's a wiki page with (terse) instructions on how to install NotZed's plugin: http://www.go-evolution.org/Tnef

As a workaround, I tend to just forward my TNEF attachments to gmail and download the attached file from there, since gmail decodes it transparently.
Comment 7 Sebastien Bacher 2007-03-08 11:00:23 UTC
Ubuntu bug about that: https://launchpad.net/evolution/+bug/83154
Comment 8 Lucky Wankhede 2007-08-22 05:37:45 UTC
"TNEF Attachment decoder" is available in head.

Closing this bug.
Comment 9 Michael R Head 2007-08-23 02:09:34 UTC
Fantastic! Does this mean it'll be in Evo 2.12?
Comment 10 Lucky Wankhede 2007-08-23 05:14:07 UTC
