GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 271098
Evolution crashes when hitting the "Send" button.
Last modified: 2005-01-07 23:00:14 UTC
Distribution: Fedora Core release 2 (Tettnang) Package: Evolution Priority: Critical Version: GNOME2.6. unspecified Gnome-Distributor: Red Hat, Inc Synopsis: Evolution crashes when hitting the "Send" button. Bugzilla-Product: Evolution Bugzilla-Component: Mailer Bugzilla-Version: unspecified BugBuddy-GnomeVersion: 2.0 (2.6.0) Description: Description of the crash: I have tried to send a message. After I've edited the message, I've hit the "Send" button. Evolution outputs an error window: "The Application "evolution" has quit unexpectedly. You can inform the developers of what happened to help them fix it. Or you can restart the application right now." After restarting, I've found out that the message was put in the "Outbox". Trying to re-send it will crash Evolution again. If I delete the message, Outbox doesn't refresh by itself: it still shows it has messages in it, although the box is empty. I have to use the "Expunge" command to clear up Outbox. Is this a Y2K5 bug? :-) (Just kidding.) Resetting the computer, removing and re-installing Evolution, changing settings, removing other email client (KMail) did not solve the problem. However, Evolution does receive emails without a glitch. I just cannot answer to them, or send a new email. What can I do? Steps to reproduce the crash: 1. Open Evolution. 2. Compose a message. 3. Hit the "Send" button. Expected Results: I expect to be able to send messages, not just to receive them. How often does this happen? Always. It's totally useless for sending email. However, it was working all right when I went on Christmas break. The problem appeared after I've come back, on Jan.3rd. Since then (i.e., Jan 3rd.) I could not send any email. Additional Information: Iwill KK-266 motherborad, Athlon 1GHz Thunderbird, 512 MB RAM, NVidia FX5200 video chipset, SCSI architecture and hard disk (Ultra 160, Tekram DC-390U3W, Maxtor Atlas 10k IV). Fedora Core 2 Linux, kernel 2.6.8.1 downloaded from kernel.org and custom-built, Gnome 2.6 and KDE 3.3.1 (main window manager). I'm using Univ. of California, Irvine email server: pop.uci.edu and smtp.uci.edu. Steps I took in order to correct the problem: - removed and re-installed evolution - changed the settings - used it with sendmail (local mail agent) - removed other email programs (KMail, Balsa) - turned OFF the computer, then turned it ON - re-built evolution from sources and installed the new build. (using gcc v3.3.3-7) If you have any suggestions or recommendations I will gladly listen to them. My email address is fbadescu@sbcglobal.net.
