Description Mike Ely 2004-10-11 19:24:52 UTC
Description of Problem: With upgraded Evolution/Connector, Public Folders
no longer appear in the same place (formerly in the main folder list for
the exchange server). They appear to have disappeared, unless the user
happens to know what an Exchange server is (remember, most people don't,
even if they use one every day) and clicks on the Exchange tab. Also
confusing is the fact that there is no way to view contents of the Public
folders from the Exchange tab, but rather the user must first right-click
on the particular item, and choose Add to Favorites. It's important to
note at this point that there are no "Favorites" anywhere in the UI,
leading to still more confusion (not to mention the previously-mentioned
lack of a Notes tab).

As a support person, I'd say the userbase is going to be pretty unanimous
on their desire to revert to 1.4.x behavior for this - the new UI is much
harder to understand for exchange accounts. Personally, I found it
irritating, but would be happy to see a compromise that doesn't violate the
newer gnome UI guidlines and despite this fact is easy to understand.

Steps to reproduce the problem:
1. Install Evolution/Connector 2.0.1 or upgrade to it.
2. Setup an exchange account.
3. Look for a public item such as a calendar, and view its contents.
4. Now, get an administrative assistant with little computer knowledge to
do the same.

Actual Results:
See description.

Expected Results:
Support staff can upgrade to the Evolution 2.X series without having to
explain, for example, what an "Exchange Server" is to userbase.

How often does this happen?
Each and every time.

This is now fixed in Evolution 2.4

We no longer have the separate Exchange component in 2.4. And for the public
folder handling, this has been merged into the "Folder subscription" menu item
since it gels well with this in concept.
