Description Malcolm Tredinnick 2004-08-06 00:05:20 UTC
In earlier versions of evolution-1.5, forwarding a mail as "inline" would
mean that any attachments on the original mail would be attached to the
forwarded copy. This was not ideal, usability-wise, since it was a bit of a
hidden feature, but at least it gave a way to forward a piece of mail
including all of the attachments.

In version 1.5.91, forwarding as an inline message drops any attachments.
So I now need to save the attachments to somewhere, start the forwarded
mail and then reattach the documents, etc. I regularly receive mail with
attachments from clients that I need to forward onto members in my team, so
I end up doing this dance two or three times a day. It is very painful.

Could we get some sort of "forward with attachments" back please? I'm all
in favour of not making it the default -- too many people in Outlook-land
send every attachment on every reply without thinking.

The ability to drag any attachment from one mail message to a message being
composed might be a reasonable fallback -- it means I only have to touch
each attachment once, instead of twice. But zero times would be even
better. :-)

Forward as Attachment - it's even the default forward style!
Comment 2 Malcolm Tredinnick 2004-08-06 03:29:08 UTC
"Forward as Attachment" makes the original mail an attachment to the
new mail. The new piece of mail that is then created does NOT include
any of the attachments on the original mail.

I am looking for a restoration of some way to include all of the
attachments that were in the original mail.
Comment 3 Jeffrey Stedfast 2004-08-06 04:43:46 UTC
ok, then I guess this is a feature request.
Comment 4 Celso Pinto 2004-08-18 23:40:30 UTC
How can you say that it is a feature request?! I guess you never had
to forward an email with attachments and comments on specific lines of
an email.
On 2002 you said:

not worth our time

Is it still your opinion?
Maybe some folks are wasting their time as well with Evolution. It's
the small things like these that make great software. I will never say
Evolution isn't great because it is, but it could definately be better
in some areas.

I reckon Evolution is in string freeze at the moment so please *do*
include this "feature" as you say it is on the next release.

Comment 5 Dan Winship 2004-08-31 14:07:39 UTC
This is not a feature request, it's a regression from 1.4
Comment 6 Jeffrey Stedfast 2004-08-31 14:57:19 UTC
christine, jpr and I all agreed to get rid of attachments for
forwarding quoted/inline and nearly ecided to get rid of forwarded
quoted/inline altogether
Comment 7 André Klapper 2005-05-09 22:05:20 UTC
so, is this a WONTFIX ("Forward as Attachment", "Forward as Attachment"!)?
Comment 8 Not Zed 2005-05-19 06:29:14 UTC
yes, this is not a bug. forward as attachment is the rfc-recommended way to
forward the entire message including attachments.
