GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 261979
Untranslatable string due to sentence splitting
Last modified: 2010-04-01 17:03:26 UTC
This string is impossible to translate precisely. It's a sentence fragment. Split sentences cannot be translated properly. The Norwegian word for "every" depends on the gender of the noun in the next fragment. #: calendar/gui/dialogs/alarm-dialog.glade.h:23 msgid "extra times every" msgstr ""
retargetting the string translation bugs that were targetted to 2.1 to 2.3. for an entire list see bug 236276.

I think this works for Norwegian. I can't speak for other languages.
commit after string freeze, better than leaving it this way. :-) still valid in 2.3.7, punting to 2.5 due to string freeze; adding "string" keyword
no, not a good patch at all, just makes it worse for english people. :-/ please add a translator comment explaining the entire sentence the string is used within, it's the best way here i guess.
The problem isn't to understand how this string is used (though I welcome any translator comment). As I thought I specified in the first report, the problem is that the string stub is impossible to translate correctly, because for Norwegian, the translation of "every" depends on the gender of the following noun. For now, I've used the kludge "kvar(t)".
Created attachment 59154 [details] screenshot to show the usage of the string hi Åsmund, and our problem is that this is a dialog consisting of a few dropdown option menus. i'm going to attach this screenshot here. i guess the only chance is to add a translator comment, but i guess there is no way to chance the gui. any proposals are very welcome!
my proposal: adding a translator comment like used in the string "Repeat the alarm |1| extra times every |5| |minutes|" where the pipelines mark |dropdown menu options|
removing old target milestone.
the patch just makes the english version much harder to understand, but is not a great translation help. :-/

ushveen, why is there a "context="yes" in the patch?
Should we just extract the translator comment from that patch maybe? All those extra attribute changes look a bit random?
