GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 261071
"RSVP" in evolution addressbook probably needs a translator comment
Last modified: 2013-09-13 00:51:05 UTC
#: calendar/calendar-errors.xml.h:78 msgid "" "Email invitations will be sent to all participants and allow them to RSVP." #: calendar/gui/dialogs/meeting-page.etspec.h:8 #: calendar/gui/e-itip-control.c:1060 calendar/gui/e-meeting-list-view.c:241 #: calendar/gui/e-meeting-time-sel.etspec.h:8 msgid "RSVP" It would probably be useful to explain in a translator comment what "RSVP" is, see http://developer.gnome.org/doc/tutorials/gnome-i18n/developer.html#use-comments).

Moving to Calendar component. Any other status update on this?
The new itip formatter is in and now has a nicer message.
Reopened because messages are still there. #: ../calendar/calendar.error.xml.h:32 msgid "" "Email invitations will be sent to all participants and allow them to RSVP." #: ../calendar/gui/dialogs/meeting-page.etspec.h:8 #: ../calendar/gui/e-meeting-list-view.c:386 #: ../calendar/gui/e-meeting-time-sel.etspec.h:8 msgid "RSVP"
still valid in 2.3.7, punting to 2.5 due to string freeze; adding "string" keyword
the first string is just stupid ans should be changed; the other three ones should get a unique translator comment. assigning this to me.
i'd like to change "Email invitations will be sent to all participants and allow them to RSVP." to "Email invitations will be sent to all participants and allow them to accept the invitation." because in my humble opinion "allow them to please reply" is just contradictive. (RSVP = please reply) i added a translator comment to the two C files: /* To translators: RSVP means "please reply" */ i'm not sure though if i can add comments to etspec files - questions for hackers and not for wannabes like me. also, how do the i18n-tools work? if i have e.g. exactly the same word two times to translate, and one has got a translator comment, are they merged in the po file and do they both get that comment? if they have different comments, do they get filed seperately in the po file? hmm. not enough knowledge here, damn. :-)
Ah, didn't know RSVP meant 'please reply'. About the comments: If the strings themselves are the same (and you don't provide any context specific stuff to the gettext functions), they will be merged to one translation. Comments will be stacked/merged too.

last one fixed, see http://cvs.gnome.org/viewcvs/evolution/calendar/calendar.error.xml?r1=1.11&r2=1.12 closing this as fixed.
