Description Richard Zach 2004-03-02 05:54:40 UTC
It should be possible to somewhere set the default duration of an
appointment.
Comment 1 JP Rosevear 2005-03-24 16:55:00 UTC
We need to make time selection in the dialog better in general.
Comment 2 Veerapuram Varadhan 2005-12-20 11:24:24 UTC
@Richard: Could you be more elaborate on your requirement?
Comment 3 Richard Zach 2005-12-20 11:59:04 UTC
If I double-click into the datebook in day view, I get a new appointment dialog, with the start and end time set to the beginning and end time of the period I clicked in. I might set the time divisions to, say, 15 minutes. But I want to be able to set the default length of an appointment to 1 hour, say, so that if Idouble-click on 3pm, I want a new appointment dialog with end time set to 4pm.
Comment 4 Veerapuram Varadhan 2005-12-20 13:09:22 UTC
You can select multiple-rows and right-click->New Appointment/Meeting etc, that will pre-set the duration of meeting/appointment appropriately. A double-click, actually means user has selected *only* that row. I don't think it would be good to assume/interpret it in a different way.

P.S:- Current Head sets appointment/meeting duration to be 1 hr by default, when invoked through Ctrl+E from other component views (other than calendar).

Closing this bug as WONTFIX. Feel free to re-open if you have any other valid use-cases or points.

Thanks for the report, anyway.

While I do not think this is a must-have-at-the-next-release feature (since the user has alternate ways of achieving the goal though one must do it every time) - there is no harm in allowing the user to set his/her own default, as long as it does not demand anything more from a user who is happy with the existing default (read) make it an inconspicuous setting in Edit->Preferences.
Comment 6 André Klapper 2006-01-09 02:06:25 UTC
at least retargetting from 2.3 to 2.5 (hmm... if i only had a 2.7 milestone)
Comment 7 Matthew Barnes 2008-03-11 00:29:36 UTC
Bumping version to a stable release.
Comment 8 Milan Crha 2009-07-02 18:01:58 UTC
It doesn't make any sense for a day view / work week view, as there should be always used the time set. user is also able to select time and double-click on it, not necessary use the popup menu or something. In Week/Month view are created full day events.

Is this only for menu items, moreover when called out of calendar view? If so, then this is just a minor gain for such a preference's option. Thus I agree with Varadhan, WontFix.
