GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 243237
last name first in some locales
Last modified: 2004-04-27 08:30:06 UTC
Description of Problem: I have found Korean translations of "first name" and "last name" are swapped. I have contacted the translator but he said it was intentional. Because in Korea and other Asian countries, names are usually written with family name first, and given name next (no middle names). (Though I write my given name "Changwoo" first in any international activities, my name is actually "Ryu Changwoo" in Korean.) It will be nice if: 1. in 'Check Full Name' dialog, display "Last Name" first and "First Name" next as default in some locales. 2. don't assume Full Name is <first_name> [<middle_name>] <last_name>. Microsoft Outlook's Korean edition displays last name first. And user can select the way how full name would be displayed. http://www.amail.co.kr/email200/outlook/add_book/add_bo2.gif Steps to reproduce the problem: 1. New Contacts and click 'Full Name' button.
