GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 232142
[usability] Reverse sorting option for mail display
Last modified: 2004-09-29 20:42:48 UTC
Package: Evolution Priority: Wishlist Version: 1.0.8-10 Synopsis: [usability] Reverse sorting option for mail display Bugzilla-Product: Evolution Bugzilla-Component: Mailer Description: Description of Problem: Cannot conveniently revert the sorting order (newest mails on top). This is IMO important, as otherwise I have to scroll down everytime I want to read my latest mails, especially with very large mail folders. While I can change the sorting order using the columns, it has several problems: - The "received" column on which should be sorted is not visible by default, so I have to click "customize current view" in the context menu to change the order. - I have to do this for every mail folder and then again when I add a new mail folder. - When I delete a mail, the next mail below the deleted one is selected. That's annoying when newer mails are above the current selection. My suggestions to solve this problem would be (one of those): 1) Change the default for the application to show newest mails on top (though I can understand that this is not the most logical thing). "The Bat!" for Windows uses this sorting order for example. 2) Add a preference for this which changes the sorting order of all current folders and the default for new folders. It should also reverse mail selection after deleting a mail. 3) Simply scroll down the view to the bottom by default whenever I open a folder. All of those would equally make the application a lot more convenient for me. I apologize if this was already taken care off in the current Beta, as I didn't try this yet (need Red Carpet for RH 8 :)). This works ok in 1.1.2.99
