Synopsis: Importing email from KMail
Bugzilla-Product: Evolution
Bugzilla-Component: Importers

Description:
The import of mail from KMail does not work.

I am sure that KDE is using Mbox now (as I set it in the settings)
however, whenever I go to import (I tried stayign int he directory
~/Mail, ~/Mail/inbox, ~/Mail/inbox/cur, ~/Mail/inbox/cur/amessage none
of htese work.

If i leave autodetection on, it says that is cannot find a filter. If I
specify Mbox, It does nothing.

I have quite a bit of email in KMail that I don't wanna lose..

Josh.

that isn't mbox, mbox has all messages in a single ifle separated by
lines of the form "From user@host date".

What format is it using? If it has 3 sub-dirs "cur" "tmp" "new", then
it is maildir, and you can just setup a maildir account and share the mail

if you are using maildir for kmail you can just point evolution to the
same directory. the folder layout might be 'weird', but you can still
read the mail in-place.

I've just migrated from Kubuntu to Ubuntu and it is still impossible to import kmail's emails into evolution. To make matters worse, it appears that evolution adopted this nasty "one file to store all emails" method of doing things, which hinders all sort of manual migration.

Moreover, doesn't that method brings all sorts of problems when there are a lot of emails to deal with, not to mention the risk of corrupting every single received email?

I've just changed from KDE to Gnome, 'cos I don't like the dysfunctional new KDE4. Importing email from kmail is *still* a royal pain. There are several scripts on the web, but none seem to work. The FAQ entry on the subject points to one such outdated script.

Since this bug has been outstanding for over seven years, it's clear that this issue receives no attention. Is this typical of Gnome problems?

You can solve this problem by picking up the source code and fix it yourself. You would be thanked afterwards.
