GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 226409
Countries in Evolution's Addressbook are sorted in American order
Last modified: 2004-04-15 18:51:05 UTC
Package: Evolution Priority: Cosmetic Version: 1.0.7 Synopsis: Countries in Evolution's Addressbook are sorted in American order Bugzilla-Product: Evolution Bugzilla-Component: Contacts [was: Addressbook] Description: The countries in Evolution's addressbook are sorted in the order of their American/English spelling and not in the order of their translation according to locale used in Evolution. A general solution to this is to sort the list alphabetically after their contents is translated. Setting qa contact to the default for this product. This bug either had no qa contact or an invalid one.
except "USA" (German: "Vereinigte Staaten") at the first position (seems to be a ximian preset?), i suspect that the other few wrong items in 1.4.6 are entirely related on translation issues, because all those country names in wrong order consist of so-called German "umlauts" (Ää, Öö, Üü): "Österreich" (Austria) appears after "Aserbaidschan" (Aserbaidzan) and "Äthiopien" (Ethiopia), which is, funny enough, sorted in correctly. "Nördliche Marianen" (Northern Marians or sth like that, dunno) is sorted in between Namibia and Nauru. Also "Südafrika" (South Africa) and "Südgeorgien" (South Georgia, formerly part of USSR) are sorted in wrongly. other very translation errors are the terms "Heiliger Stuhl" (="Holy Chair", should be: "Holy See" [btw, what is that?!]) and "Kleinere abseitsliegende Inseln" ("United States Minor Outlying Islands", first of all imho it does not make sense outside of the USA and secondly it's translated without "United States" so i was very confused about those "Minor Outlying Islands").
according to gerardo on irc it's an american-centric default, so 26409 is a dupe of bug 250483. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 250483 ***
