GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 223783
Hyperlinks right-click option to choose browser (like xchat), apply-patch etc.
Last modified: 2009-11-27 02:59:20 UTC
When I recieve a web link in my e-mail it would be nice to have more options than, "Open in brower" and "Copy link address". The problem with "Open in browswer" is that it open another browser window and it opens it in the current desktop (I have galeon running in a seperate desktop). The "Copy link address" works fine, but it means that I have to go back to Galeon, open a new tab, use CTRL+0 to get the open link dialog, click on the [ Clear ] button, and use CTRL+V or middle-click to paste the link in, and click [ OK ]. What can I say...I'm lazy. It would be nice to have an option like in X-Chat where I have the choice of which brower in which to open the link, whether I want to open it in a new window, an existing window, or a new tab. Very nice.
still missing in 2.1.5, changing subject to a clearer one.
still as described in 2.3.5.1
assigning dobey's evo UI bugs to srag as he is the UI guy now. :-)
Wow. I wrote this bug nearly four years ago, and things have changed considerably. While I still think this option could be useful for a power user I no longer see the point in a doing this work. Currently, if I click on a link it opens in my existing Firefox instance thanks to desktop-launch, and opens in a new tab thanks for the Firefox preferences. From a usability perspective this bug is resolved for me. However, this might make a nice bounty for someone. It might work well as part of a plugin.

Bumping version to a stable release.
I don't see the point either now. Closing this as OBSOLETE.
