GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 222474
Please allow keeping Tasks and Calendar within the IMAP folder
Last modified: 2004-02-27 02:14:46 UTC
It would be really nice if evolution allowed to keep Tasks, Calendar and maybe Contacts within the IMAP folder. I use evolution from three different computers to access the same IMAP mail account and I am happy. But, I would like to share my to-do list and event-list together with my mail. Currently, after choosing 'create folder' I can select - say - 'Tasks', but in case I try creating it on IMAP server, I get something like 'can not create this folder type on that storage'. Having specified the above wish-item, let me say that in case it can not be implemented, it would be probably good idea to suit the 'Folder type' drop-down within 'Create new folder' window to the list of things which can be created on the given storage. Please fill in this template when reporting a bug, unless you know what you are doing. Description of Problem: Steps to reproduce the problem: 1. 2. 3. This works ok in 1.2 since you are presented with a folder tree, and those folders that don't allow the specified type don't activate OK button.
I am reopening this bug for a multiple reasons: 1) The main problem mentioned here is 'please enable keeping tasks/calendar within IMAP', not 'please forbid it better'. Most of this bug is about it, the whole #30853 marked as duplicate of this bug is about it too. 2) The claim that OK button is not active is not true (at least in evolution 1.2.1 which I use). If I select 'New folder', then change folder type to 'Tasks', select something on IMAP and enter some name, OK is still active - only after it is clicked one gets the 'invalid storage' error. In case there is any chance to do 1), does not bother with 2) (and please, don't close this bug until 1) is done or ultimately decided not to be done). In case 1) can not be done in any nearby future, I would recommend changing the New folder window so that after changing the folder type, the tree is filtered so it contain only valid items.
IMAP doesn't have an adequate architcture for this to be done. That have been marked Wontifix somewhere else in bugzilla. OTOH, UI is quite different in 1.5 and components (tasks, calendars, contacts and mail) have totally separated views so somehow your suggestion of "valid only here" folder is done.
