Description Charles Burns 2002-03-23 04:27:34 UTC
Package: Evolution
Priority: Minor
Version: 1.0.2
Synopsis: Evolution imports duplicate emails when importing same file > once
Bugzilla-Product: Evolution
Bugzilla-Component: Importers

Description:
Description:
When importing email files from Mozilla 0.9.7, if asked to import the
same file more
than once, Evolution will import all messages already imported in
addition to
new messages. For example, when setting up a Linux system with Mozilla
and
Evolution, I initially imported the inbox which worked perfectly. Later,
I had opened
Mozilla Mail to test some settings and it downloaded the latest
messages, which Moz
was configured to delete from the server. I wanted these in Evolution
(what was to be
the main email program) so reimported the files. Evolution imported the
new messages
fine, but also imported the other 1200 or so messages so that there were
two of each.

Some sort of intelligence should probably added so that if an email in a
data file
being imported is identical to one already in the folder, it should skip
it or ask what to
do (with a checkbox saying "Respect this choice for all duplicates" or
the like).

I'd like to propose to implement such feature as in "The Bat!" mailer:
we have a "Kill dups" in popup of mail folder, in which duplicates are
detected. It will be VERY cool, espessially for those, who use more
then one mailer, and sync them through improt.
As for me it it the only feature that Evo lacks. It is really GREAT
product.

hmm. importing a file should *not* check for duplicates in my humble opinion.
and having a "kill dups" feature is a duplicate of bug 253244.
