Do you use pop or imap? [bug 216453]
I had previously defined an IMAP mail account (pointing to an HP OpenMail server), but was having trouble with this, so had removed the IMAP account. At the time of the crash, there were no mail accounts defined.
Weird. Adding your comments to the parent bug.
