Description Åsmund Skjæveland 2001-11-25 09:41:55 UTC
It would be very nice to have Evolution set itself automatically to handle
mailto: urls. It's not entirely trivial to do by hand, since evolution's
command line is undocumented. (evolution --help isn't helpful.)
Comment 1 Jeffrey Stedfast 2001-11-25 19:45:21 UTC
evolution mailto:<blah> where <blah> is a mailto url.

this can be set as the gnome url handler, galeon has a config option
for it also...

evolution mailto:%t I think.
Comment 2 Peter Williams 2001-11-25 21:46:55 UTC
I think I reopened this without managing to add a comment...

The bug report isn't that we can't handle mailto:'s, but that on the
initial setup dialog, we don't ask the user "Should Evolution be your
default mail composer?". In order to have Evolution handle mailto:'s,
the user has to muck with the control center.
Comment 3 Damian Ivereigh 2001-12-15 12:41:06 UTC
I agree with Peter on this. It would be great if when Evolution
started up it checked if there was a mailto: URL handler in Gnome, if
not it should offer to put it in there. In addition there should be a
place in the preferences of Evolution to do this.

Yes I know you could argue it is not Evolutions job to fiddle with
Gnome's settings, however I would argue that only evolution knows how
to call itself (i.e. knows the exact command to put in the mailto: line).

Having just spent an hour to figure it out myself - it would be beyond
most people to fix this.

let it be noted that I think applications that do this are EVIL.

i'd consider this as a part/subset of/solved by
<http://www.gnome.org/bounties/Mailer.html#127526>?
