Description pmhoepfn 2001-11-12 02:08:56 UTC
Package: Evolution
Priority: Normal
Version: 0.99.0
Synopsis: Evolution no longer empties trash on exit
Bugzilla-Product: Evolution
Bugzilla-Component: Mailer

Description:
I just installed the latest version of Evolution after reinstalling my
Linux OS (Debian). I now have a bunch of mail in my mailbox. I deleted
a number of them and they are all struck out in my inbox. The option
"Empty trash folders on exit" is checked in the Other tab of Mail
Settings. I close Evolution, Evolution tells me it's closing, and then
it's closed. I relaunch Evolution, and my inbox still contains the
messages I marked for deletion, still struck out in the list. The trash
no longer gets emptied automatically. There is apparently no way to
manually empty the trash, either. So, since the automatic trash emptier
doesn't work and I can't empty the trash manually, there's no way to
delete these messages in my inbox with this release candidate of
Evolution. I think this is a pretty serious bug.

Sorry, I just figured out that you *can* empty the trash manually, but
I found it very difficult to find out how. That command happens to be
in the Action menu, not in the File menu, where I'd expect it to be
(e.g., in the Folder submenu of File), seeing as every other mail
program I've used puts trash and folder management together. I
suggest you move that command - as well as the Expunge command - to
the File menu. If nothing else, copy those commands to the file menu
if you'd like to also keep them in the Actions menu. That would be
fine. I also suggest the Empty Trash command pops up when you
right-click the Trash folder.

Sorry, I guess that blurb doesn't have much to do with this bug report. :)
