GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 205172
configure folder on a local folder is ugly
Last modified: 2013-09-10 14:02:48 UTC
The temporary hack of a configure local folder dialogue (where you can change from mbox<>maildir etc) is incomplete: - needs an option for enabling/disabling indexes I think thats all. And its just plain ugly and completely different to every other dialogue, and nobody seems to have looked at it at all.
FWIW, this dialog is in evolution/mail/local-config.glade, so modifying it wouldn't be too difficult for a person so inclined.
As a result of the UI freeze today, I'm marking all remaining non-1.0 UI bugs to 'future'. Someone reading this should only change the target back to 1.0 under the following circumstances: 1) The change would not impact documentation. (i.e., 'how to do X' would not have to be changed in any way.) 2) The change would require trivial work for the programmers involved. Most likely, only the programmers themselves are able to judge this. So, if you are not on the evo team, or cannot provide a patch to them for this, you should probably not make any such changes. Sorry that this is going to impact so many irritating bugs, but we have to prioritize our limited resources.
Setting this to 1.1.
The functionality required is now there, but the gui is still uglyish. So i'm marking it down and changing the title to reflect this.
Because of the decision to remap 1.1->1.2 and 1.2->1.4, I'm going to be moving a large number of bugs around in the bugzilla. You can just search on 'body contains' 'Because of the decision to remap' and mark all as read. Please direct all questions about this change to evolution@ximian.com, not the bug. Luis

Created attachment 40713 [details] supporting graphic for attached patch.
I was hoping for something a little more than just moving things about. anyway i've checked it in.
Shouldn't the main issue here be whether just moving things around a bit makes a more usable design? Do you even remember the context in which you asked me to fix this for you? It was right before 1.0 was released, and you asked me to have a look at it, and in about twenty minutes I sent you the cleaned-up version on the assumption that you wanted as little as possible to change so you'd be able to commit it for 1.0 . Does this ring any bells with you? I can find and attach the IRC logs wherein we talk about it to this bug if you'd like. If you don't like something *specific* about the design I sent you, why don't you just ask me to re-do it? Just making vague complaints about hoping for something more doesn't really give me any ideas about the direction you want this to go. And honestly, you've had this design waiting for you for several months. You have had plenty of time to look at what I sent you and tell me what you thought about it. Just complaining about it now isn't really very constructive, is it? Whatever. You tell me what you don't like, specifically, and I'll fix it.
