Vfolder with a / in the name doesn't show up.

Looks like it's the / in the name, not the (.

The mailer shouldn't allow the slash in vfolder names. I don't see what else I can do about that.
The mailer actually allows this for a reason, so you can have subfolders. The shell just whinges because you try to create a folder without a parent, rather than just creating a nonselectable parent for it.

Now it creatses dummy parents as required. This provides a really ugly way to specify a tree of vfolders though.
