Description David Richards 2005-04-08 14:20:48 UTC
We are using gnome-print as part of Evolution on NLD. Evolution stores the
last selected printer and makes use of it, however the UI doesn't reflect the
last printer you selected or used. Upon return into gnome-printer if a printer
is the 'default' it should be highlighted to give the users a visual signal that
they don't have to select it again. Ideally, the grid should scroll to the
highlighted position so they can see their printer is really selected without
having to scroll down to check.

I see the same problem under Fedora Core 4 (i686). Problem occurs in Evolution,
Evince, and Gnumeric. Default printer selection is always "Generic Postscript"

Problem occurs with current CVS as well as current RedHat libgnomecups-0.2.0-2.
Comment 2 Jon Kåre Hellan 2005-07-10 08:53:52 UTC
Here comes a stupid question, sorry! How can one choose the default printer?
I've applied the patch. My laser is default both for CUPS and lpr (I know, it's
CUPS handling lpr, so they're the same), as well as in
Desktop/Administration/Printing. Yet, GENERIC_POSTSCRIPT comes preselected in
the dialog. I've chosen my laser in the dialog and printed to it, to see if it
comes up default next time. It doesn't. I've searched in the gconf keys, and the
only candidates I've found are /apps/gnumeric/printing/printer and
/apps/gnumeric/printing/printersetup/printer-config. Both come with the
admonishment: "Do not edit this variable".

Sorry, I somehow applied the previous comment to the wrong bug report. *And* I
complained about the patch not working, when I was supposed to apply two patches.
