GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 172524
Crash when editing a file with name having invalid unicode
Last modified: 2005-05-28 13:10:39 UTC
Distribution: Debian 3.1 Package: nautilus Severity: normal Version: 2.8.2 Synopsis: Crash when editing a file with name having invalid unicode Bugzilla-Product: nautilus Bugzilla-Component: general Bugzilla-Version: 2.8.2 BugBuddy-GnomeVersion: 2.0 (2.8.1) Description: - Description of the crash: When I open the properties (right click, properties) of a file wich has a name with invalid unicode, nautilus crashes rihgt away, systematicaly. Such a file exists on my filesystem, because I just migrated to using an UTF8 locale (I was using ISO8859-1 before). - Steps to reproduce the crash: 1. create a file with following name (in hexa) : 74 e9 6d 6f 69 6e 73 (this is "témoins" in ISO8859-1) 2. open nautilus in the right directory 3. right click the created file 4. chose properties => Segfault - Expected Results: No crash.... :) - How often does this happen? Always. - Additional Information: I'm doing this to rename the file in the properties text entry. I can also rename the file by right clicking, and chosing rename, but this is painful because the filename that appears in nautilus is not just the filename, but the filename with " (Unicode Invalide)" (which is "Invalid Unicode" in english) appended to it. This is another bug : the indication that the filename has invalid unicode should not interfere with the filename when we edit to rename the file. The activity of renaming a file with invalid unicode will be very often done by people migrating to a unicode locale (=> many people). Debugging Information: Backtrace was generated from '/usr/bin/nautilus' (no debugging symbols found) Using host libthread_db library "/lib/tls/i686/cmov/libthread_db.so.1". (no debugging symbols found) `system-supplied DSO at 0xffffe000' has disappeared; keeping its symbols.
