GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 172003
Auto-complete feature should use most recent previous entry, not latest entry
Last modified: 2018-06-29 20:51:04 UTC
If I add a transaction dated, say, 1/1/05, and the auto-complete feature recognises the description I have entered, it will use the most recent entry with that description, even if it is dated later than 1/1/05 and there is an entry with the same description dated prior to 1/1/05. I think it would make more sense to autocomplete with the latest entry dated prior to 1/1/05, and if there is none, then to use the latest entry in the entire account. Other information:
I understand what you're saying, but I'm not convinced that one behavior is clearly better than the other. If it behaved as you describe, I could easily imagine someone else filing a bug saying that it should use the most recent entry overall, not just before the transaction date. As such, I'm reclassifying this as an RFE for a preference option on the register component.
Is this still a problem with 2.0.x versions of gnucash?
The original point does, indeed, remain; it's not so much a problem now as a RFE, as noted by Chris Shoemaker.
