Description mtr1966 2005-03-28 03:06:29 UTC
Distribution: Debian testing/unstable
Package: gnome-print
Severity: blocker
Version: GNOME2.8.1 unspecified
Gnome-Distributor: Ubuntu
Synopsis: Printers don't work. Period.
Bugzilla-Product: gnome-print
Bugzilla-Component: gnome-cups-manager
Bugzilla-Version: unspecified
BugBuddy-GnomeVersion: 2.0 (2.8.0)
Description:
Description of the crash:

Tried to add a printer. CUPS manager crashed. Part of a symptom where
no printer-related features work at all.

Steps to reproduce the crash:
1. Try to add a printer.
2. Watch the printer fail to do anything (including print test pages).
3. Try again.
4. Watch CUPS explode on contact.

Expected Results:

I expect my printer to be working.

How often does this happen?

Printer failure: 100% of the time. (hp LasterJet 1000 series on USB)
Crash: only happened the once -- but that's because at this stage I've
given up hope of ever seeing a printer working.

Additional Information:
If you want Linux to be taken seriously as a desktop replacement,
printers not working--AT ALL!--is not a good way to do it. I had high
hopes for Ubuntu being, finally, the Microsoft-breaker. Not being able
to print, however, has lowered those hopes dramatically.

Moving all gnome-cups-manager bugs to new product. Filter on Kjartan's spring cleaning.
