GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 171002
Unexpected application halt and close
Last modified: 2005-03-20 16:09:36 UTC
Distribution: Debian 3.1 Package: control-center Severity: normal Version: 2.8.1 Synopsis: Unexpected application halt and close Bugzilla-Product: control-center Bugzilla-Component: background Bugzilla-Version: 2.8.1 BugBuddy-GnomeVersion: 2.0 (2.8.0) Description: Description of the crash: Everytime I right-click the desktop's background to change the wallpaper the "gnome-background-properties" application stops and displays a kind of "unexpected error" message. The application stops and a "close" button becomes available. Doesn't matter how many times I left-click the alternative "restart application" button: it always starts with a "unexpected error" message being displayed at a error-window (the application keeps unaccessible at this window's background). Steps to reproduce the crash: 1. Right-click the desktop's background; 2. Choose "change wallpaper" (I don't know if this is the exact text that shows up once I'm running my system in portuguese, anyway it's something like that, for sure); 3. Afterwards that window containing that error message pops up. Expected Results: That a window with a list of wallpapers showed up. As a matter of fact, it appears (shows up), but I don't get to access it 'coz the application locks it with that first-plane error-displaying window first. How often does this happen? Always. I've never been able to change my wallpaper from the default one to something of my own personal taste. Additional Information: As I've told before, my system is running in portuguese and I don't know the level of influence it has (if any). Ah! Very important: when I run this application as "root" it runs ok, but if I want to change my wallpaper I'm supposed to run Nautilus and choose the "Wallpapers and flags" option (I guess that this is the name in the english version). Debugging Information: Backtrace was generated from '/usr/bin/gnome-background-properties' (no debugging symbols found) Using host libthread_db library "/lib/tls/libthread_db.so.1".
