Description Jon Kåre Hellan 2005-03-15 14:22:51 UTC
Please describe the problem:
Trying to open the url http://jk.ufisa.uninett.no/gnumeric/nix-nordunet.xls
from the file selector, I get the error message:
"Could not retrieve information about the file
http://jk.ufisa.uninett.no/gnumeric is not a folder". The message is the same
whether I do this in gnumeric, gedit or abiword.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Bring up the fileselector in gnumeric or gedit and press Ctrl+L
2. Enter the URL http://jk.ufisa.uninett.no/gnumeric/nix-nordunet.xls
3. Press Open

Actual results:
"Could not retrieve information about the file
http://jk.ufisa.uninett.no/gnumeric is not a folder"

Expected results:
In gnumeric, the file would open. In other apps, I would expect a message that
they don't understand the file format.

Does this happen every time?
Yes.

Other information:
It's true that you can't open http://jk.ufisa.uninett.no/gnumeric as a directory.
But I entered a complete URL, which works when used from the command line.
