GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 170013
please rob/borrow Font preview widget from Abiword
Last modified: 2013-03-03 00:37:38 UTC
abiword has a pretty cool widget to preview whatever font you are looking at from the dropdown list. it would be nice if Gnumeric had that too.
This should happen mostly by itself when/if abi dumps that widget into goffice. But first the goffice dust needs to settle, I guess.
That would certainly be nice to have. libgoffice is the place for it.

I suspect this is simply an outdated bug. What are the differences between these two widgets? Both have three columns for Font, Style and Size respectively. Both have checkboxes for Strikethrough, superscript and subscript. Abiword has a single checkbox for underline while Gnumeric allows forthe choice of 4 types of underline. Abiword has a checkbox for overline which is not available in Gnumeric. Abiword has a separate tab to select colours while Gnumeric has a combobox for popular colours and a separate dialog for custom colours. The latter is equivalent to the Abiword tab. Abiword has "Highlight Colour" tab which really is a background colour tab. In a spreadsheet program like Gnumeric it makes more sense to have the background colour associated with a whole cell. I think this is simply an outdated bug. --> WONTFIX
Andreas, take a look in the main Abiword window there is a dropdown allowing you to select the current font face. Open the dropdown and hover your mouse over some of the fonts and you'll see a fly-out box with a font preview. I can not be sure, but I am assuming that this is what the reporter was suggesting be implemented in the main Gnumeric window as well.
That would explain the "low" priority...
[Sorry, very old email address I don't check very often anymore.] Vidar is correct. Let's just say I was a little more optimistic about Gnome Office libgoffice when I filed the request.
Bug #695031 is asking for something even more useful and I would think if we ever change the font selector that we would be going that way. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 695031 ***
