GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 169310
UI freezes playing videos using gnomevfs
Last modified: 2009-08-15 18:40:50 UTC
Version details: 0.101-0ubuntu2 Distribution/Version: Ubuntu Hoary I have a directory on another machine on my LAN mounted using gnomevfs. When I play a video located on the remote machine, the video plays fine but the UI locks up completely. It also freezes before the window has had a chance to resize itself to the dimensions of the video. Overlaying seems to continue to function because I can still move the window around the desktop and the video portion will move with it.
xine-lib or GSteamer backend? (see the about box).
Movie Player using xine-lib version 1.0.0
Could you try with a more recent version of Totem? What type of share is the file you're playing on? If the problem still occurs with a more recent Totem and xine-lib, could you try getting a backtrace of the hang?
Isn't 1.0 the latest version? I'm trying to play the file from a Windows share. I'm afraid i'm not very experienced with backtraces so don't know how to go about getting one when a program hangs. What I did was just hit Ctrl-C to get back to the gdb prompt and do the following: (gdb) bt
+ Trace 57006
Hope this helps.
You said you were using an older version of Totem: Version details: 0.101-0ubuntu2 Does the playback carry on normally after a while?
Sorry, I'm actually using 1.0. Yes, playback seems to be fine. It's just the UI that freezes.
But does the UI become usable again after a while?
I'll actually need to wait until bug 170910 is fixed before I can try. GnomeVFS isn't working at all for me at the moment.
I don't know whether a gnomevfs or totem patch has changed something but I'm no longer experiencing this bug.

Btw, for me this bug is only reproducable with clearlooks, bluecurve works fine.
Nickolay, if you still see the problem, please open a bug against clearlooks.
