Can you try the latest VTE release to see if that helps? 0.11.14 is out now.
I haven't seen this crash in a long time, but i also haven't used a slow machine (<300Mhz) in a long time. Currently using libvte4 0.11.13-2 from debian/testing
Assuming this has been fixed. Please reopen if it ever happens again.
