GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 168227
when unpacking, I always get my files in a subdirectory
Last modified: 2005-02-24 18:06:22 UTC
With the version of the directory chooser that file-roller uses to select where I should put the files when unpacking, the files go in the selected directory (if one is selected) rather than the directory which's listing I see. That might or mightn't be fine if it weren't for the annoyance that the top directory (usually the first one alphabetically) becomes selected by default. I always go "huh? where did my files go?" then do an ls -rt in the directory where I *thought* my files should be; find that a subdirectory with a name that comes early in the alphabet is recently altered, and find my files in that. Other information: Please comment, if my phrasing was unclear; I'm more or less typing in my sleep atm.
Hello Sarah, it seems I have the same behaviour To be clear, I will re explain step by step. 1°) open an archive with file-roller 2°) Click the button "Extract" 3°) Select a folder where to extract files (it must contain at least a folder) by entering in in the filechooser. 4°) Click "Extract" result : the files will be extracted in the 1st child folder of the folder you selected earlier. It seems there is a misbehaviour of file-roller to extract files in the folder selected in the filechooser (in the right panel) instead of the parent folder.
I think it's a dup of bug 166836. this is a problem with gtk+ and it's GtkFileChooser *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 166836 ***
