Description Dave Marsden 2005-02-23 00:54:09 UTC
Version details: 1.8.9 Debian Package
Distribution/Version: Debian Sarge

I use Gnucash for business accounting.

To reproduce:-

Do business essentials - Post bills, add vendors etc
Remove power
Try to restore from log

All new vendors, posted bills etc have disappeared although transactions all
appear OK. Difficult choice required whether to disentangle the transactions or
start from last genuine save.

I've come to the conclusion that the quickest option is to start from last
genuine save.

This problem for business users issue is warned about in the help file. I
assume from this the technicalities of adding the business actions to the log
file are considerable.

So Instead:-

I would really appreciate a timed autosave option in Gnucash user config.
Perhaps off by default. I would turn it on immediately!

I managed to book a clear day to catch up on paperwork. Now I need to book
another day :-(

I know one should save repeatedly, but its easy to be distracted from the
mundane stuff when you are struggling with hundreds of poorly printed VAT
invoices. Please can we get the computers onboard for this mundane repeated
task they will LOVE doing for us!

Just for the record: bug#107365 and bug#107370 are asking for almost the same thing.

"save early, save often"

Adding business logic to the logfile would be... challenging.

On a serious note, I want to see the logfile go away. Once we get the SQLite
backend integrated then you'll not need to worry about autosave, gnucash will
commit every operation to the database.
