GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 167146
If a user turns off 'count number of items', then right clicking on a folder will no longer provide size.
Last modified: 2005-02-12 11:34:06 UTC
Distribution/Version: debian As summary, If a user turns off 'count number of items', then right clicking on a folder will no longer provide size of folder. I do not see the logic of tying these two functionalities together. I turn off count number of items firstly for speed and secondly as I don't really care about the number of items in a folder. But I frequently right click on a folder to find out it's size. But as it is, I can't have one without the other. Also, maybe an enhancement, I would endure the speed penality if it listed the size of folders instead of number of items. This would probably be much slower but maybe a hash checksum could be generated for dirs and then it would just display the size from it's cache of what it believes the folder size to be, and only recalc if the folder doesn't match the checksum. Err, maybe that wouldn't work as to check the checksum would be just as long, but I'll leave that for you to ponder an efficient way of doing that.
