Description Daniel Alonso 2005-01-28 19:45:58 UTC
Please describe the problem:
I've a desktop icon that connects to my ftp account in my ISP. If a click on it
Nautilus opens a new window, treating this desktop icon like any other local folder.

Nevertheless, if I try to open a file from this remote ftp server, say from
gEdit, I would expect to see it like a folder in the file selector but all I see
is a regular file with name myftp.desktop.

Even if a try to open something within gpdf this desktop file doesn't appear at
all, nor like a file nor like a folder.

The behaviour is not only wrong, from a user perspective, but also inconsistent
between applications.

Steps to reproduce:
1. From nautilus file manager go to an url of an ftp server.
2. Drag the url from the nautilus window to the desktop. A desktop icon is created.
3. If I click this icon nautilus, after asking me the login, shows me the
contents of the remote account.
4. If I try to edit (gedit) a file from this "virtual" folder it doesn't show in
the file selector.

Actual results:
In gedit, the file selector shows a regular file called myftp.desktop. In gpdf,
the file selector doesn't show this regular file not a folder.

Expected results:
I would expect, that the file selector behaves with this "virtual" folder as
with any regular one.

Does this happen every time?
Yes.
