when there is a remote connection in file->recent documents and this connection
is really slow gnome-panel blocks loading, even minutes the last time and is
unresposive.

Also it seems that gnome-panel stats the entries in recent files several times
per session, in my particular case, this means several ssh zoombie processes (up
to 10 sometimes) as i have an sftp connection that is really slow.

If i kill the panel the sftp processes go away.
