Description bill.haneman 2005-01-22 21:37:46 UTC
Run a remote app, for instance via ssh, and display it on your GNOME desktop.

Note that this app, running on some other host, doesn't know about any of the
existing desktop services which advertise Bonobo.

This means, for instance, that such apps, although they may be running as the
same user and even sharing the same home directory via NFS, don't connect with
the desktop at-spi-registryd.

Though there are technical issues regarding scope (i.e. where and how long to
search, whether/when to export the activation server IOR, etc.), there are cases
where remote activation is useful. In particular, one may wish to locate
already-running remote services.

So - I think the way to do this is with a far simpler 'activation' process for
a11y - whereby we just launch the daemon with the session & store the IOR for
the daemon on the root window.

Ultimately, I'd like to re-work b-a-s to do something more like this internally
anyway - that is, if I had any time to look at this sort of thing :-)
