GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 164767
Mozilla Firefox Ad from New York Times is not displayed correctly
Last modified: 2005-03-13 18:44:23 UTC
Please describe the problem: Instead of ad text I can see only distorted letters with no similarity to actual add. Steps to reproduce: 1. Download http://www.mozilla.org/press/nytimes-firefox-final.pdf 2. Open it in Evince 3. Cry. Actual results: Some distorted rendering appear. Expected results: Normal rendering. Adobe Acrobat Reader 5 shows that pdf without problems. Does this happen every time? Yes. Other information: Distro: Slackware -current. Attached GIMPed screenshot.
Created attachment 36310 [details] Slightly modified screenshot of bad rendering. I slightly touched this shot in GIMP - I've pasted second misrendered page into it.
Can you please test the same file with gpdf (and possibly xpdf)?
With xpdf it looks garbled in exactly same way. With gpdf text is readable, except for peopke names on first page. And images are missing. t looks fine with Acrobat Reader 5.
Again (such as in bug 164754) the fonts are CID keyed ones. As far as I understand, this bug is a duplicate of bug 164754 (and it should be marked as such).
ggv tells me it is not a valib PS file btw

Created attachment 38643 [details] Comparision of rendering by Evince and Adobe Reader 5 OK, fonts are now rendered almost properly (solid fill instead of gradient). But still, there is graphic missing. As you can see on this screenshot: - left is proper rendering by Adobe Reader 5 - "Firefox 1.0" text is a gradient and upper part of page is occupied by graphics. - right is Evince current as of 12 march 2005 - fonts are solid and firefox logo is missing.
ACK. We have a separate bug for the graphic problems with this file, bug 166879 You can add yourself to the cc list of that bug if you want to be notified when something changes in that bug.
