Description Roger 2005-01-11 20:32:23 UTC
Steps to reproduce:
1. Set New Mail Notification to play a wav file having a sample rate of
44,100 Hz.
2. Receive new mail and verify that wav file plays correctly.
3. Set New Mail Notification to play a wav file having a sample rate of
22,050 Hz.
4. Receive new mail and Evolution will crash.

Other information:
Evolution new mail notification sound works with wav files having a
sample rate of 44,100 Hz. If a wav file with a different sample rate is
used, eg 22,050 Hz, then Evolution crashes when receiving POP3 email.
Other sample rates may either cause a crash or are just ignored and do
not sound.

Expected Results:
Evolution should correctly play a wav file with any sample rate.

How often does this happen?
Every time.

Additional Information:
Problem verified on two different PCs, one running Mandrake 9.2 and one
running Mandrake 10.0 Official.
Problem verified on Gnome 2.4 and KDE 3.1

Workaround is to change wav file sample rate to 44,100 Hz with an
application such as Audacity.
The new wav file then plays correctly in Evolution.

Thanks for the bug report. However, Evolution does not yet track its bugs in the
GNOME bugzilla. Please report the bug to http://bugzilla.ximian.com

Oops, crap. I didn't see your last paragraph until after I hit the commit
button. Sorry.

Could you attach the files?

untie1.wav has a sample rate of 44,100 Hz

untie1.wav is based on untie.wav but has been converted to the new sample rate
of 44,100 Hz. This file works correctly with Evolution and sounds to notify
new mail.

fwiw, other 22050 wav files I downloaded off the net don't cause the crash, only
ones that seem to are from OOo
