GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 16172
Please add shortcut keys to toplevel menus
Last modified: 2004-12-22 21:47:04 UTC
Package: gnome-terminal Severity: wishlist Version: 1.2.1-helix1 (helix/debian) Synopsis: Please add shortcut keys to toplevel menus Class: change-request Distribution: Debian 2.2 System: Linux 2.2.15 i586 unknown C library: C library 2.1.3-10 C compiler: 2.95.2 glib: glib 1.2.8-helix1 GTK+: GTK+ 1.2.8-helix1 ORBit: ORBit 0.5.2-helix1 libxml: libxml 1.8.7-helix1 gnome-print: gnome-print <none> gnome-core: gnome-core 1.2.1-helix1 Description: In order to use keyboard-navigation of menus in Gnome, it appears to be necessary to have a shortcut key on each toplevel menu. For example, in the Control Center, the File menu has "F" as a shortcut key, so I can access the menus with Alt+F. Gnome-terminal doesn't have shortcut keys on any of its toplevel menus, so it is impossible to access them by the keyboard. Keyboard navigation can speed up access for advanced users by an order of magnitude, not to mention being better for the wrist than using the mouse. Keyboard support in menus is wasted if you can't access it. ------- Bug moved to this database by debbugs-export@bugzilla.gnome.org 2001-01-27 15:17 ------- This bug was previously known as bug 16172 at http://bugs.gnome.org/ http://bugs.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=16172 Originally filed under the gnome-core product and gnome-terminal component.
