GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 161454
Keyboard layout tab
Last modified: 2005-01-05 17:35:43 UTC
E-mail and IRC log pertaining to the design of the keyboard layout tab, and integrating the keyboard switcher prefs into this capplet. From reinouts@gnome.org Thu Dec 16 12:34:32 2004 Date: Thu, 16 Dec 2004 12:34:30 +0100 (CET) From: Reinout van Schouwen <reinouts@gnome.org> To: svu@gnome.org Subject: layouts and stuff Hello Sergey, (18:13:41) svu: layout-per-window is VERY popular feature. You have to know it I've reflected a bit more about all this and I have the following thoughts: * if you don't do instant apply in the keyboard chooser window, keep the Cancel/OK buttons. I was wrong to suggest Close in that case. But: scroll to the currently selected one, so that you don't get the Acer Airkey V if you accidentally press OK. * A toggle button might be more appropriate than a checkbox for the Preview function. * The two-column layout selection can be simplified. Use a one-column list and a selection window, much like languages list in the Epiphany preferences. * With the simplified layout, you have some room left for the extra keyboard switcher prefs. The 'separate group for each window' box, unchecked by default, makes the default-group-settings options active (compare the RepeatKeys checkbox in the accessibility prefs window).

Oops. Sorry for the spam...
After some discussion I've changed my mind and agree with the idea of putting the full tree into a popup. That fits nicely with my hope of putting the kbdraw keyboard preview there too, and having it match the current selection in the _tree_ rather than the current settings in the server. That would make it a useful browsing tool.
Actually it is already fixed in CVS now. So I am closing it...
