Description David Masterson 2004-12-14 04:30:35 UTC
I use FC2 on an Athlon-based system. It would be nice if I could not only set
an idle time before the screensaver kicks in, but also set an idle time after
which my session will automatically be logged out. On my home system, I often
get up to do other things and I would like the system to automatically log me
off so my wife could jump on if she so chooses (and not use my account).

Is this on someone's radar as a problem with GNOME? This is a usability issue.
Comment 2 Brian Cameron 2005-04-23 23:55:52 UTC
It sounds like a good feature. Not sure when I'll have time to look into this.
 Want to patch the code?
Comment 3 David Masterson 2005-04-24 00:24:50 UTC
I have never even looked at the Gnome code, so I have no idea where to even
start to patch the code. I think I'd best leave that to more of an expert.

There are two parts to this:

1. Add another timeout to the screensaver (time to blank, time to lock, time to
logout) where zero (0) for the timeout turns off the timeout. For this, the
third timeout forces a logout of the user's session.

2. Add an option to the screensaver to allow someone to enter their own username
and password and, thus, force a logout of the currently logged in user. The
user should be able to disallow that, though.
Comment 4 Brian Cameron 2005-09-28 04:21:13 UTC
This really would need to be fixed in the screensaver logic, not GDM so moving
to the gnome-screensaver category.

gnome-screensaver will give you two options:
 * leave your wife logged in and log in in parallel
 * enable a logout button to appear after a certain time
