GNOME Bugzilla – Bug 160902
gnome-settings-daemon keeps failing
Last modified: 2004-12-30 16:14:15 UTC
Please describe the problem: When I first log in, I can switch themes/fonts/etc just fine. Once the desktop has been open for quite a while, however, changes do not take effect. I need to kill gnome-settings-daemon to get this to work. Steps to reproduce: 1. Log in. 2. Themes work. 3. Wait a while/do stuff. 4. Themes don't work. 5. Kill gnome-settings-daemon. 6. Goto 2. Actual results: Expected results: Does this happen every time? yes Other information: Metacity, after a while, sometimes does not respond to changes in preferences either.
I have exactly the same bug on debian unstable (Gnome version 2.8.1). Also play/pause/next/prev keybindings fail to control rhythmbox sometimes (it seems to be related as killing gnome-settings-daemon solve the problem)
Could this be related to packaging problems in debian unstable? I haven't seen this reported on other distros.
still this gconf bug: #153948. The Debian packages send a sighup to gconfd-2 after the installation to reload the base (which is a gconf feature) but that breaks some listeners ...
#154005 in fact (#153948 is a dup of it) *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 154005 ***
