Description milky_cow_101 2004-12-05 03:32:20 UTC
This dialog found by rihgt clciking the panel, then "add to panel", closes after
adding one applet.

Ideas:
* right click context menu -> add to panel/remove from panel
* Have the dialog stay open until you press Cancel.

Also "Cancel" should probably be renamed to "Close" since you don't revert
anything.

Other information:
Maybe more organization..it's hard to find the "custom application launcher" in
this huge list. The menu was better organization-wise. Thing should be split
up a bit, maybe how Microsoft did their "set progtam and access programs"
windows: http://www.theeldergeek.com/images/SP1/SP103.gif

"Application Launcher' odesn't act like anything else in that dialog. Move it
somewhere else in the dialog. Same with Custom Application Launcher.

The second part of your bug is already fixed in 2.9.x

As for the first part, this was a decision we made. But we might have been wrong
:-) I don't know if people will want to add one or many applets most of the time...

Usavility people: what do you think?
Comment 3 Vidar Braut Haarr 2004-12-05 19:14:41 UTC
Since it's a list, I don't see any harm in supporting Ctrl+Click and Shift+Click
for multiple selection.
Comment 4 Calum Benson 2004-12-17 16:22:08 UTC
Well, multiple selection is a feature that doesn't add any clutter to the
interface or affect the behaviour for users who only want to add one applet, so
it would probably be a nice addition. (Although I agree it's likely to be a
pretty rarely-used feature, so I guess you've got to balance that against the
complexity of the fix...)
Comment 5 Vincent Untz 2004-12-18 17:29:47 UTC
This wouldn't be too difficult, I think. But what should be done if the user
selects an applet and the "Application launcher..." item? This item changes the
"Add" button into a "Next" button because we need to present the list of
applications to the user.

Sorry for the spam. Confirming some bugs.

Comment 8 Gene Hoffler 2005-02-05 04:33:57 UTC
I am relatively new to both Linux and gnome, but immediately noticed that I
could not add multiple applets in Ubuntu. For my laptop, I had to repeat this
procedure several times. It would be really great to be able to select all of
my preferred applets (battery status, logout, cpu freq, etc.) all at once. I
could then go back later and change them if necessary. These are just my
thoughts as a newbie. :)
Comment 9 Vincent Untz 2005-02-05 09:17:43 UTC
What about enabling multiple selection except when the user selects "Application
launcher..."?
The only problem here would be to determine what happens when the user has
already a selection an tries to add "Application launcher..." to the selection

Adding a tip that says "You can drag icons to the panel." at the bottom of "Add to Panel" window I think might be good too. The panel is a large thing and draging gives you contorl of where stuff should go not just to pile it up.

bugzilla.gnome.org is being replaced by gitlab.gnome.org. We are closing all
old feature requests in Bugzilla which have not seen updates for many years.

If you still use gnome-panel and if you are still requesting this feature in a currently supported version of GNOME (currently that would be 3.38), then please feel free to report it at https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-panel/-/issues/

Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry it could not be implemented.
